Joy practices drawing from still-life

Joy's Living Room, Drawn From Still-Life

This lovely living room was drawn by our friend Joy (age 11, Williamsburg VA)

It's interesting to note that Joy drew this living room scene from "still-life". Typically, when drawing from still-life, students are encouraged to include whatever they observe objectively. It takes practice and self-discipline to not be distracted by details, and to keep a sense of balance and proportion.

Within our gallery we also have living rooms we know weren't drawn from direct observation; they were drawn "from memory" or "from imagination". Drawing things that aren't sitting in front of you requires different skills and disciplines. At Storyboard Toys we feel it's very important for artists of all skill levels to practice all three types of drawing. ArtHouse is a great place to display them all!
