"Go Forth 2"
Julie Maren explores the roles objects and symbols play in activating
memories and telling stories - some objects drawn out and illuminated, others
disappearing into shadows obscured by layers of paint and collage. In this
painting Julie has mixed medias and inspirations (paint, antique wallpaper,
old lace fabric, soft light through Grandma's window) and interwoven layers
of representational imagery. Julie tells us the process of creating paintings
must coincide for her with the emotional aspect of the work.
