Megan Shows That "Coloring" Can Be Beautiful

This is the first submission to our online art gallery of a "coloring-book" page from one of our ArtHouse accessory decor kits!

Megan (age 8, Ottawa Kansas) is justifiably proud of her skill at coloring! She obviously enjoys it, and she's moved well beyond "staying within the lines". Now she thinks about color selection, shading, angle-of-light, etc. We understand she also creates original pictures based on things she's seen in our decor kits. We praise and honor Megan's creativity!

Please note: some child-development experts caution coloring can be harmful. Children can become discouraged with their sketching and drawing skills if they're unfavorably compared with the images being colored-in. The concern is that kids may give up on expressing themselves artistically. Frankly, at Storyboard Toys we believe these fears are sometimes overblown. Kids learn nearly everything by first copying adults, and then practicing on their own. But we do adamantly agree all children should be encouraged and taught to create original and expressive art at all stages of their development. Balanced art education includes both skill exercises and personal creative expression.
